Frequently Asked Questions
Why Do You Need A Generator?
Everything in your households requires power. Your fridge, stove, lights and etc.. all require power. A generator keeps your house powered during a time of power loss. There are also other items that require power that are just as important.
What about your home security system that requires power and the internet which also requires power? And what if you are one of the millions of people that work from home? You can use your phone as a hotspot, but what do you do when your phone runs out of battery? Sit in the car and finish your day of work while you charge your phone.
These are just a few reasons why you should have a generator.
Can I use the generator that I already have?
The answer is yes. Some of you may already have a portable generator that you have for camping or other outdoor events, and even some of those can be used, to power some items in your home.
How can I do that? First, you will need to have an electrician install a receptacle for the generator to plug into your home. The electrician will also need to wire the items in your load center that you would like the generator to run. Second, your generator will need to have an external outlet to supply the power and some do not come with this option.
What are the Different Types of Generators?
There are many different type of generators but the 4 most frequently use are:
- Portable Generators: These generators are moveable and easily stored in your garage. Since they are smaller, they are limited on what they can run and how many items it can maintain.
- PTO type Generator: These generators are used mostly by the agricultural industry. These generators run by the use of a tractor’s PTO and can power an acreage or small farm.
- Standby Generators: This type of generators can not be moved. they are set in place and wired directing to your home. Some will start up automatically when it senses that there is a power loss.
- Fuel Types: There are many different fuel sources that a generators can be run off of and some are gas, diesel, propane, natural gas, and yes, even hydrogen.
What is the Cost?
The cost to install a generator in your home will all depend on what you want the generator to run in your home. Some generators are able to start up on their own.
